Azuero Peninsula of Panama

Villa Camilla in Pedasi

The Azuero Peninsula comprises the provinces of Herrera and Los Santos. A 2 two hour drive along the Panamerican Highway takes you to the town of Divisa where you turn left and enter a region famous for its festive spirit, which year after year attracts thousands of city folk during the famous, pre-Lenten Carnival celebrations. It is said that the 'Pollera', the country's national dress, originated in Azuero.

There are over 600 folklore or religious festivals each year, since even the smallest community devotes a day to its own patron saint. [ more ]
